Mary, Queen of scots

Full day private vehicle tour

Mary, Queen of Scots is perhaps the most famous and iconic figure in the whole of Scottish history…

…and amazingly, many of the locations in Scotland that she would have known well are still surviving today, and these are the basis of our full-day luxury private vehicle tour.

Our journey starts at your accommodation, with complimentary pickup at your accommodation or cruise vessel.  We travel first out to the historic town of Linlithgow, where Mary was born and baptised, before coming back to the edge of Edinburgh, to Craigmillar Castle, where Mary often enjoyed archery and falconry.

This historic place is where the fateful plot was made by her supporters to kill her second husband, Lord Darnley.

Then a short drive to the ancient and beautiful village of Duddingston and the cosy Sheep Heid inn, thought to be the oldest surviving inn in Scotland, where you’ll have a relaxed lunch. Mary dined here on several occasions.

After lunch, you have a choice of two fantastic options: in the first, we head into the city centre, passing the sites of Darnley’s killing and Rizzio’s burial, as well as the house of Mary’s fiery nemesis, John Knox, with an audio-guided visit to the Palace of Holyrood, Mary’s Edinburgh home. Alternatively, we can discover the exact site of Mary’s surrender to the Scottish Lords, at Carberry Tower, just outside Edinburgh.
