OUR ROYAL MILE WALKING TOUR

THE STORIE AND THE SANG

TALES AND SONGS OF THE ROYAL MILE

Let us take you on a walking tour deep into Scotland’s history.  To the days of the Stewart Kings and Queens, the Jacobite Rebellions, and the intellectual explosion of the Scottish Enlightenment. But you’ll be taken deeper still by our local guide, hearing eyewitness accounts, and the songs and poetry that tell Edinburgh’s story, in English, Scots and Gaelic too, the Celtic tongue of the Highlands (don’t worry, translation is at hand!)

You’ll tour right up the Royal Mile up to the Castle Esplanade, then down into the Canongate, hearing of triumphs, tragedies, and eccentricity galore. Including the stories of some rebellious pet birds!

ART DECO BUILDINGS OF EDINBURGH

The streamlined, geometric designs that became known as Art Deco burst on to the architectural and decorative scenes worldwide in the 1920’s and 30’s. Even traditionally conservative Edinburgh saw new public and private buildings with an austere glamour never seen before. Come with us on a voyage into the 1930’s, with cream tea inclusive! We’ll see the city’s best Deco buildings, whether school, library, bridge, inn, garage, cinema, apartment block or civil service HQ. As we go, we’ll hear about the Scottish 1930’s and its architects – controversy was in the air!
